Dr. Carolyn “Carrie” Klinge ’79 has been inducted into the World Association for Cooperative Education’s 2017-18 Hall of Fame.
WACE, as it is known, was founded in 1983 to develop, expand, brand and advocate for cooperative and work-integrated education programs within industry and educational institutions.
Dr. Klinge was cited for her impressive career in molecular biology and cancer research, and her tireless mentoring of future doctors and educators. The latter includes hosting Keuka College students for Field Period® experiences at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she teaches.
Dr. Klinge cites her own Keuka College education and Field Period® experience as instrumental in directing her toward her master’s and doctorate degrees, and her career in cancer research. She now examines how breast and lung cancers respond to certain hormones or drug therapies and impact patients.
“Dr. Klinge … has hosted 12 Keuka College undergraduates for Field Period® studies over 38 years of teaching and service in medical schools,” says her nominating description. “She has mentored an additional two M.S., seven Ph.D., and 21 medical students, and 19 post-doctoral fellows.”
Dr. Klinge is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology & University Scholar at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She has been a Keuka College Trustee since 2011.
She was nominated for the Hall of Fame by Keuka College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Paul Forestell, a member of the WACE Board of Directors.
